Issue No. 73: Civil Unions Legal in the State of Illinois as of June 1st. 2011

Civil unions are now legal in Illinois. It was a festive day in Millenium Park, in Chicago, as 36 gay and lesbian couples partook in a public ceremony, attended by family and friends, as well as Gov. Quinn and Mayor Emmanuel. In this photo, Lakeesha and Janean are surrounded by their 6 children and other family members after exchanging their vows.
